A Personal Update: My Spiritual Storm

Hello Newsletter Family!

I’m happy to join your emails again 🙂
I hope you all had a wonderful end to 2017, and an even better beginning to 2018!

I want to share my health story with you. I feel it’s important for you to know what happened to me, especially if you are on the path of spirituality… Because it will most likely happen to you at some point as well.

On the evening of Monday, November 27th (yes, I remember the exact date) I began to feel weak. You know when you feel like you’re coming down with something, and you can feel it take over your body? Well that is how I felt. I went to bed early that night.

The next day, I did not feel any better. So by 11:00am, I cancelled all work so I could go back to bed and continue to rest. Each day of that week, I felt worse and worse. I had a congested chest, could not stop coughing and had a runny nose. I did not have a fever, but my body felt so weak, to the point that I could not get out of bed.

I know that our immune system is weakened due to various factors, but I did fall into any of those categories (stress, not layering up with enough clothes, lack of sleep, other people around being sick, not eating well, etc).

I actually knew what was happening to me.

I was going through a release
Another term I use for this is: I was going through a spiritual storm.

And I want to explain this to you, because it could very well happen to you too if you are on the path of meditation and are a spiritual seeker.

By being involved in such a life (meditation and spirituality), we are constantly cleansing and releasing, whether we realize it or not. We are consciously working on breaking old habits and states of mind that do not serve us. We are working on releasing our past and stepping into a fresher future.

The thing to note is we carry our life (thoughts, emotions and scenarios) in our mind, spirit and body.

By meditating, the first thing we work on is our mind. We make a conscious effort to cleanse our mind. Once our mind feels a little cleansed, then our spirit begins to feel it too. We feel lighter and happier.

And lastly, our efforts will naturally make their way into our body. And our body begins to release old habits and ways of life.

But when the body is releasing, we feel sick. It is releasing toxins from our past that do not serve us anymore. And when this happens, our body begins to shut down, making us feel ill, and forcing us to rest.

I am not here to give you medical advice.

I am only here to give you spiritual advice.

And it is up to you to know your body and lifestyle well enough to determine if you are bodily-sick or your body is taking you through a spiritual cleanse.

This form of spiritual cleanse has happened to me a few times in the past 1.5 years. But each time it came, it lasted a few days.

This time it lasted for almost one month.

From November 27th to December 23rd, I was not feeling 100% healthy. During this time, I was bed ridden for many days. I could barely talk, so I had to cancel all appointments such as work meetings, recording sessions and video recordings. I had to cancel a lot of social gatherings as well, with my friends and family.

And each time I had to cancel, and was by myself, I would read, write and meditate. Some days I was able to good meditation time in. Other days the most I could meditate was 15 minutes at a time.

For one month, I was in and out of deep, personal quiet time as I rested, and tended to my health.

I did end up going to the doctor because I was on a recording deadline with Insight Timer, (more details about this in a later newsletter). I had completely lost my voice and had to deliver a ten-day course to Insight Timer.

The doctor was perplexed with my health and said he could not prescribe me antibiotics or other medications because I did not have a virus or other flu like illnesses. (I was laughing inside because I could not explain to him that I was in the middle of a spiritual cleanse/storm).

But he did prescribe me cortisone to help with the inflammation of my vocal cords. Well that did not help at all, and I was actually not able to record. Thankfully, Maddy from Insight Timer gave me an extension.

My point in sharing this part of the story is that not even medication helped me.

When I have gone through spiritual cleanses like this, I have occasionally taken over the counter medication. And they did help. But this cleanse/storm had an agenda of its own.

So in conclusion, I have cleansed and am no longer bed ridden.

And through this process, I have gone deeper into myself and my internal world.

I feel more connected to the Source within than I had before. I feel more connected to life than I had before. I feel altogether more grounded than I had before.

And the thing is, I was already feeling connected and grounded. But the path is infinite. Our internal world is as vast as the external world around us. And there is always more room to go deeper in.

I’ve shared this story so that if and when such a situation happens to you, you have an idea of what is going on.

The important thing to note is I knew from the beginning that I was not contagious, flu-sick or in need of serious medical attention. But I am also in tune with my body, mind and spirit.

So again, this is not medical advice for you. This is spiritual advice.

And the advice is to allow the storms/cleanses/releases of life to happen. Do not become resistant to them. Because on the other side is more of life, more of the authentic you, waiting to connect with you.

If you know of anyone who could benefit from the message of this newsletter, please forward it to them.

I wish each of you a beautiful week!

With Gratitude,
